Pet Boarding Advice

Planning to board your pet? Ensuring they are well-prepared will help make their stay comfortable and stress-free.

Vaccinations & Health Requirements

Before booking a boarding facility, check that your pet’s vaccinations are up to date. Most boarding facilities require vaccinations to have been administered within the last 12 months, and some have specific policies on how soon before boarding they can be given. Contact the facility in advance to confirm their requirements. If your pet is due for a booster, schedule it well before their stay to allow time for immunity to develop.

If your pet has any ongoing medical conditions, inform the facility at the time of booking. Provide clear instructions for any required medications, including dosage and frequency, and bring extra medication in case of unexpected delays.

Choosing the Right Boarding Facility

Not all boarding facilities are the same. When selecting one, consider the following:

  • Are the kennels clean, spacious, and well-ventilated?
  • Is there access to natural light and an outdoor run?
  • Do they provide comfortable bedding, food, and fresh water?
  • What emergency veterinary arrangements do they have?
  • Are staff friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive?
  • Do they require proof of vaccination? (A good sign of responsible management.)
  • Can they accommodate any special dietary needs?

Visiting the facility beforehand allows you to check cleanliness, security, and overall atmosphere. A calm, well-maintained environment with minimal overcrowding will help your pet feel at ease.

Making Your Pet Comfortable

To reduce anxiety, bring familiar items such as a blanket or toy. Maintaining their usual diet can also help prevent digestive upset.
